P1988Preliminary issue — not for construction. Two years as an electrician’s apprentice under Ted Selerski, Menomonee Falls. CNC machining at Custom Products in Butler. Center grinding on Mitsubishi machines at Custom Production Grinding, including offset work for cam throws. Three years assistant-managing a pizza place, and a long tail of odd jobs. I learned to pull wire and cut metal before I ever drew either one.
1999PyroMatic. Panels, drafting on AutoCAD R13, and TIG-welding thermocouples that have to read true at temperature. Learned the trade from the metal up.
A2001Automated Systems International. ControlLogix over Sercos fiber to multi-axis servo. First time the drawing had to be right before the steel was cut.
B2002Hydro-Thermal. Sizing, installing and troubleshooting steam heaters in paper mills, food plants and pharma — and training their crews to keep them running. Process doesn't stop for you.
C2006Bevco. ControlNet, DeviceNet, startups. Also started repairing amplifiers on the side, which taught me more about grounding than any panel ever did.
D2010Field revision. Twins. Six years at home raising them. The drawing was set aside, not canceled.
E2017Return to service. Started again at panel wiring and worked back up. Nobody hands your old title back, and they shouldn't.
F2019Magnetek, leading a cell. First-pass yield, 5S, developing people for promotion. The systems thinking transfers further than expected.
G2024Quintec. Robotic cell controls design and PLC programming — back to designing the thing instead of building someone else's.
HCurrentRCH Automation. Brew City Robotics. Integration work, plus a memory system for AI, because apparently I can't leave a problem alone.

The method has not changed

None of it was assigned. Nobody set a syllabus, nobody marked it, and there was no certificate at the end of any of it — just a problem I could not solve yet and a book that might help. Get the book, work it through, check as you go.

Which is the same thing I was doing at fourteen with two thousand lines of BASIC out of a magazine. Forty years later the method is identical. There is just more shelf.
